Road trip to Penang proved to be very taxing. The traffic is horrendous (and if you think Johoreans drive like a Speedy Gonzales on speed, then think again) and I had to endure a dull dinner with ‘orang-orang gomen’ and attended the International Penang Bridge Run 2003 flag-off at 5 in the morning. As part of the co-sponsors, I was forced to do a senamrobik to Siti Nurhaliza’s technofied (word invented, hail English) love song and ended up being part of the Celebrity Run. ‘Celebrity’ here means Menteri2, Timbalan Menteri, Datuk-datuk, Tan Sri-Tan Sri who are too heavy or too old to run. We ended up brisk-walking instead to ‘keep up’ with the lot. ‘Twas my 30 minutes of fame in Penang. Sigh.
I’m thinking of taking part next year (after seeing a very decrepit, but happy man taking his own sweet time to finish the marathon). Alden the ego-balls, my fellow compatriot from HQb also took part. Didn’t win though because he was ‘just here to improve my personal timing’. Right. I wonder how did he fared.
